The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition (HKIWSC) is the first truly Asian wine and spirit competition in the world, and as such features a number of distinctly Asian trophy categories including Best Wine Pairing for authentic Asian dishes and an award for Best Chinese wine. Panel judges are handpicked from the most qualified and experienced wine and spirit judges from China, India, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Macau, including the competition’s Directors, Hong Kong-based Master of Wine, Debra Meiburg and Christie’s Head of Wine, Simon Tam.
The HKIWSC is operated in partnership with the 42 year-old London-based International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), the world leader in organising wine and spirit competitions. The HKIWSC, now in its fourth year, was created specifically for the Asian market by an experienced team familiar with the region.
The competition is designed to provide Asian wine and spirit consumers with authoritative purchasing guidance that is sensitive to a whole range of Asian tastes and cultural consumption patterns.
The 2012 competition takes place in Hong Kong between the 4th – 8th October at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the results announced at the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Fair, considered as Asia’s most exciting annual wine and spirit event in November.
Debra Meiburg, HKIWSC Director said “We are delighted to have Swire Hotels as our official hotel partner. There is close synergy between our two brands and the two hotels in Hong Kong - The Upper House in Pacific Place and EAST, Hong Kong in Island East– will provide quality and exclusivity for our judging team as well as exhibitors and visitors to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s international wine and spirit fair this November.”
